As I mentioned before this is my going away/fundraising/early birthday party and would love to see you before I take off! NWSC has been offering surf lessons to at-risk youth since 2002, and now you can have your surf lesson help a kid in need.

For every paid surf lesson, you help sponsor a troubled youth's next session that otherwise wouldn't happen. The more you surf, the more stoke is passed on to a young individual in need of it.

SANTA ANA – Now he's respectable.

But once upon a time, Jerry Roach was hated by police, by politicians and just about everyone.

"I stood alone," he says, watching grainy video clips of his notorious nightclub, the Cuckoo's Nest, on a laptop. "I had no allies."

Not even the kids he championed all the way to the state Supreme Court stood in his corner – until the end.

"Yeah, I never liked the guy," says Bret Leon, 45, of Costa Mesa who once tore a door off the club to sneak in. "But he was a groundbreaker. I respect what Jerry did. He should be documentary-ized."

And he will be.
