As I mentioned before this is my going away/fundraising/early birthday party and would love to see you before I take off! SANTA ANA – Now he's respectable.

But once upon a time, Jerry Roach was hated by police, by politicians and just about everyone.

"I stood alone," he says, watching grainy video clips of his notorious nightclub, the Cuckoo's Nest, on a laptop. "I had no allies."

Not even the kids he championed all the way to the state Supreme Court stood in his corner – until the end.

"Yeah, I never liked the guy," says Bret Leon, 45, of Costa Mesa who once tore a door off the club to sneak in. "But he was a groundbreaker. I respect what Jerry did. He should be documentary-ized."

And he will be.
